Safety 101

 Safety 101

Safety is a very important thing when gaining the trust of a system. A big thing that we learned in establishing safety was that most were still from the mindset that we are getting hurt. So, comforting alters, talking to them, listening to their concerns and reminding them that they are safe or are going to be safe. Not every place you are will be safe. Having alters front at home, or at a place you know is safe is best to start off with. We always if we can try and get alter to front when they are at home as that is a place we can guarantee is safe and they can present as themselves. When alters want to front, let them know that they are safe, if the environment is safe. By letting them know this, it will help spread the word. Word of mouth is a huge help when establishing safety.

As a large system, we can’t reach or speak to everyone, so word of mouth was paramount to our success. If protectors are wary of the environment, it is always good to get their opinion and how they feel about the place. As they are there to protect you their advice is very important. Note, that protectors may be over cautious. In that situation, it is a good idea to prove to them that the environment is safe by letting them actively front and get a good feel for the place. Understand that they will be very hypervigilant to the situation. Especially because the situation is going to change now that you have system awareness. Once word has spread that the environment is safe, more alters will make their presence known. They are curious about this world and want to learn more, now that the world is safe for them. It may seem very frantic but protectors, gatekeepers and many others are looking out for the system. You’ve got this!

A blue poster that says “Safety is paramount in a system. Without safety, a system will go back in the shadows and stay silent. You all are alive and brave and are safe now. You’ve got this! You can now be yourself. You deserve it.
